The Epistle of Jim

November 2003

At Thanksgiving time we all think of things we are grateful for. But so often we seem to forget or just assume to Whom it is we are thankful. I want to specifically thank God this season.

  • I thank God for my wife and family, they are a constant source of joy.
  • I thank God for my church, a place to serve and grow.
  • I thank God for my country, free to live and worship.
  • I thank God for providing for all my needs.
  • I thank God for giving me and my family health.
  • I thank God for friends that support and encourage me.
  • I thank God for His love that saves me.
  • I thank God for His Spirit that indwells me.
  • I thank God for His hope that sustains me.
  • I thank God for eternal life.
  • I thank God for...and on it goes.

The old hymn says to "count your blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings, see what God hath done." This Thanksgiving, be sure to thank God specifically for each blessing He has given you. Don’t just give Him one thank you to cover everything, but stop and reflect on each thing He has done for you. "And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done."
